PNoy defends PNP Chief Alan Purisima
He's standing by his man."In his agenda-setting dialogue with government officials on Friday, September 12, Aquino responded to those calling for the resignation of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima following the kidnap-robbery incident along EDSA that involved cops," reports Louis Bacani on Philstar.com.
Aquino defended Purisima, saying, "Let me ask you this: Is this the only time that scalawags are in police service? Yes, there are scalawags. But who caught the 'hulidap' crew on EDSA? Policemen also nabbed them."
Aquino added: "Is it right to demand General Purisima's resignation when he's leading our police force in doing their job right?"
The report noted: "The President also pointed out that there have been 'transformations' among police ranks in terms of equipment, government welfare and work system under Purisima's watch."Aquino likewise cited "the arrests of fugitive Jovito Palparan, the Tiamzon couple of the New People's Army, as well as some of the suspects in the killings of race car champ Enzo Pastor and hotel chain owner Richard King."

Call center agent caught selling shabu inside fastfood spot
What on earth is happening in Quezon City? It seems that criminals over there aren't afraid to do their transactions in plain sight."The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives recently arrested Jenny A. Tecson, 27, a call center agent for selling shabu inside a fast food restaurant in Cubao, Quezon City," reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The operation took place inside a fast food restaurant along General McArthur Avenue.
The report noted: "Tecson will be charged with violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002."

Lawyers of Dalia Pastor submit her affidavit to NBI
For the record, her current whereabouts have not been revealed."In her three-page sworn affidavit submitted by her lawyers before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), race car driver Enzo Pastor's widow, Dalia, denied having an affair with suspected slay mastermind Sandy de Guzman, saying the latter is only a friend," reports ANC.
Dalia explained in her affidavit: "I consider him to be both our friend and numerous people have been making the same offer because of the industry we are in."
She also said she "could not remember the last time she saw De Guzman." She did say, though, that De Guzman attended her birthday party in 2012."He went to my birthday party celebrated in my residence at that time in San Antonio Village, Makati in September 2012," she noted in the affidavit.
She then indicated that it is also "possible" that De Guzman went to their present residence in Magallanes Village.
Moreover, Dalia said De Guzman was even talking about "a business partnership" with her husband.

6 Pasay cops sacked for extortion scam
Let's hope they're out of the police force for good and not just "reassigned.""Six policemen were relieved from their duties after they allegedly abducted and tried to extort money from a man in Las Piñas City last month," reports Mitch Arceo in Tempo.
The sacked cops were identified as SPO4 John Miranda, SPO2 Jerry Fernandez, SPO2 Jay de Guzman, SPO1 Sabbon, PO3 Gil Anos, and PO3 Hernan Pua.
Here's the crazy part: They all belonged to the Pasay Police's Anti-Crime Follow-Up Unit.
According to Senior Supt. Adolfo Samala Jr., chief of the Las Piñas police, they learned about the incident from the National Press Club (NPC).
Apparently, the victim had gone to the NPC office in Manila and related his ordeal to NPC vice president Benny Antiporda."

Miriam wants to organize meet-and-greet event for fans
In a video posted on her Facebook page on Fri, Sep 12, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago told her followers that she was thinking of organizing a “meet and greet” event for them.
This is to celebrate the fact that she was winning her battle against lung cancer.
Santiago said, "Hello my dearest friends, I wanted you to see me as I am now in partial recovery from my lung cancer,” Santiago said in the video. “It was stage four which is the last stage but doctors took away two cups of liquid from my lungs."
She continued, "So I don’t think I am stage 4 anymore plus, after six weeks of my wonder pill, which I take once a day, the scan showed that 80 percent of the cancerous mass had already disappeared, So, I would like to see you personally in a greet and meet function or event that I would like to personally organize for each one of you."
In closing, the senator said, "In the meantime, I will give you a very, very grateful and loving hug and kiss. Thank you."

Napoles ordered to attend hearings
She can't take a rain check on her hearings."Detained businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged brains behind the PHP10 billion pork scam, must continue to appear before the Sandiganbayan regarding her plunder and graft cases," reports Dennis Carcamo on Philstar.com.
The Sandiganbayan's 3rd Division, which is chaired by Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, denied Napoles' lawyers' request to waive her court appearance during the proceedings.
Napoles' lawyers had filed a motion to ask the court to excuse Napoles because she suffered from "mental and physical fatigue every time she is escorted from her detention cell at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City to the Sandiganbayan in Quezon City."
The court is obviously not buying that as an excuse.

A 9-point refreshers' course on The Lemonheads
The Lemonheads plays Manila on Dec 4 at Whitespace along Pasong Tamo Extension in Makati. If you’re scratching your head wondering, who are the Lemonheads again? Let’s start at how, we believe, you know of them.
1. “Mrs. Robinson.”
They did the remake of the Simon and Garfunkel classic in 1992 to promote the video release of The Graduate. Eventually, it made its way to Wayne’s World 2 and more recently, The Wolf of Wolfstreet. The Lemonhead’s version is included in their 1992 solid-as-gold album “It’s A Shame About Rey.” Has it rung a bell yet?
2. Speaking of It’s A Shame About Ray…
One of the songs in that breakthrough album is called “Hannah+Gabi,” which, if you’re a follower of our local scene, is how Mikey Amistoso calls his solo project. You may have heard of Hannah+Gabi from the OST of Marie Jamora’s 2012 Cinemalaya entry Ang Nawawala. Yes, Mikey, Marie, and their cohorts from Ciudad, which includes Quark Henares are among the generation that has been tremendously influenced by The Lemonheads.
3. “My Drug Buddy.”
Is Mikey’s favorite Lemonheads song. If you had just been born in 1992 and is more attuned to the current indie scene, you may know that said song as covered by Austin-based musician Ben Kweller, him of “Wasted and Ready” fame.
4. Ryan Adams.
Mandy Moore’s husband actually collaborated with the Lemonheads in the band’s most recent release, 2012’s The Hotel Sessions. Adams contributed drumming and produced the record.
5. The Christina Aguilera connection.
If you’ve heard a Sunday slowdown-esque version of Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” that’s actually The Lemonheads you’re headrng. The band included their version that song in their 2009 album of covers Varshons, where Liv Tyler and Kate Moss also collaborated.
6. Speaking of Beautiful…
Evan Dando is The Lemonheads’ front man and the only remaining original member of the band. Why does his name sound familiar? You may recognize him from leafing through a 1993 issue of People magazine, where, he was was included in the magazine’s “Most Beautiful list.”
7. The Lemonheads candy.
Yep, Evan Dando named the name after the candy of the same name. But that happened around 1989, after releasing three records to lukewarm success. Then, the band was collectively known as the Whelps.
8. Back to the music.
If the above are too nerdy for a casual bystanding, below are the other big fat three songs we assume you know: “Big Gay Heart,” “Into Your Arms” and “It’s About Time,” which are all from the 1993 record Come on Feel the Lemonheads.
9. “If I could Talk I’d Tell You” meanwhile comes from the 1996’s Car Button Cloth. All of the songs received a tonload of airplay on NU 107.

MMDA lifts number coding for September 15, Makati not included
This isn't really a cause for celebration, is it?"Due to bad weather, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has lifted the number coding scheme for Monday, September 15," reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
The MMDA explained that the number coding suspension applies to the entire Metro Manila—except for Makati City.
In a dzMM interview, MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said, "This doesn't mean we're encouraging the people to go out even if the kids are home because classes are suspended. We never know, there might be street floods due to intermittent rain."
The report didn't state Makati's reason from not lifting the number coding scheme.
